Why this programme?

This programme focus on scientific and technological innovation. By combining the advanced research results from Cambridge scholars and Cambridge's classic educational concepts, it establishes and improves students' understanding of the development in future scientific and technological innovation, and provides students with access to a world-class university's academic platform so as to communicate with top scholars in various fields, stimulate their innovation potential.

This programme also lets students live and study in Cambridge, communicate with teachers and students from Cambridge University. You will not only learn from professionals but also gain in-depth experience of new education methods and concepts, and experience British culture to broaden your horizon of future academic or career development.

During the courses, there will be tutors to guide students, guide them to discover their ideas, provide support throughout the courses. At the end of the programme, two weeks of learning results will be assessed through project lectures and parliamentary debates.

Course Module

​The 21st century is the century of technology development.  No matter economics, services or other fields, science and engineering play an important role in various industries. And data and algorithms have brought significant innovation to all aspects of human life.

​Topic 1  Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a new technological science that studies and develops theories, methods, technologies, and application systems for simulating, extending and expanding human intelligence. Since the birth of artificial intelligence, its theory and technology have become more and more mature, and the application field has also expanded. This course will inform students of current development hotspots and procedures using related technologies and let students practice in projects independently. The aim is to let everyone feel the changes brought by artificial intelligence and personally participate in the development of intelligence.


Computer vision is a computing discipline that attempts to make computers "see" through image processing or video processing. Traditionally, computer vision research has been driven by some major application areas, such as biological vision modelling, robot navigation and operation, surveillance, medical imaging and various inspection, detection as well as recognition tasks. In recent years, the interactions between multimodal and perceptual interactions have led to a large number of researches on machine vision.


Intelligent Vehicle (Intelligent Vehicle) is a comprehensive system that integrates functions such as environmental perception, planning and decision-making, multi-level assisted driving. It is a typical high-tech complex applying technologies such as computers, modern sensing, information fusion, communication, artificial intelligence and automatic control. The key technologies of autonomous driving can be divided into four parts: environment perception, behaviour decision-making, path planning and motion control. The course will provide details of the hardware and software systems of autonomous vehicles, as well as the preparations required.

Topic 2  Cutting Edge:Virtual Reality & 3D Printing

Virtual reality uses computer simulation to create a three-dimensional virtual world, so as to provide users with simulations of senses such as vision, hearing, and touch. It allows users to observe things in three-dimensional space in a timely and unrestricted way. In this course, students can experience virtual reality. It aims to let students learn more about the manufacturing principles of virtual reality equipment. In this way, students can build a comprehensive understanding of the virtual reality environment.

3D printing belongs to rapid prototyping technologies. This technology is based on digital model files, using powdered metals or plastics and other adhesive materials to print objects layer by layer. 3D printing technology represents the forefront development of manufacturing technology. Learning 3D printing technology can bring your life more personal and convenient application. 3D printing is not only used in jewellery, footwear, industrial design, architecture, but also in the medical and aviation industries. During the course, students will explore what 3D printing is under the guidance of top scholars and learn about the application of 3D printing technology in real life.

Topic 3  Implementation Tool:Computer Programming

In a technology-led world, computer science has become as important as reading, writing, and math. We have heard the point that in the future, everyone needs to know a little bit about programming so many times.

 

Whether it is the "Hour of Code" campaign initiated by US online coding education websitecode.org, or the decision announced by the Ministry of Education on a press conference that in the "new curriculum standard" we will officially include artificial intelligence, the internet of things, and big data processing in the education system, they all deliver the same idea: For the next generation's education, programming can be as important as English.

Charles Babbage, the designer of the world's first computing system, and Maurice Wilkes, the creator of the world's first programmable computer, are both well-known alumni of the University of Cambridge. During the course, students will have the opportunity to fully experience innovative teaching concepts from world-class university-Cambridge.

Famous teachers in Cambridge: In the 800-year history of Cambridge University, a group of leading scientific masters such as Newton and Darwin have emerged; they have created literary and historical scholars with outstanding contributions such as Bacon and Keynes; they have cultivated arts that pioneered the era such as Milton and Byron Master, came out of eight British Prime Ministers. As of 2018, a total of 107 Nobel Prize winners ranked first in the world. A total of 10 Fields Award winners and 6 Turing Award winners have studied or worked at Cambridge University.

In the courses, we invited a number of famous Cambridge lecturers, including Professor Hawking's former friend, the main designer of the Hubble Telescope, the director of the Royal Observatory, and the British Empire Commander of Honor Professor Alec Boksenberg.

Speculation Spirit

Speculative Spirit: Modern Western debates originated in democratic meetings. In Western countries, before any bill is introduced, it needs to make a decision after a series of discussions in Congress. Speculation plays a very important role in Cambridge's educational philosophy.

 

A founder of the university's speculative spirit, The Cam-bridge Union was founded in 1815 and is the world's oldest and continuously functioning debate society. People who have spoken or participated in the debate here include the important figures in the world such as US President Roosevelt and Reagan, British Prime Minister Churchill and Mrs Thatcher and Hawking.

​Rowing&Leadership

The rowing is not only a top-level sport, but also a motivation of improving youth teamwork and leadership.

Rowing is the most representative sport of the University of Cambridge, with a participate rate of 70% among Cambridge students. Rowing is a team battle. Its essence lies in the fact that no one is a superhero in the team. Each person performs his or her own duties. It is a neatly disciplined team. Physical strength, teamwork, and other comprehensive abilities are indispensable. 

Formal Dinner

People who have watched the movie "Harry Potter" must be very impressed by the scenes that the characters attend the college dinner. Currently, only Cambridge and Oxford in the UK still retain the tradition of college formal dinner.

 

Formal Hall is a characteristic of Cambridge. The pale yellow candlelight is reflected in the solemn and elegant banquet hall. Students wear formal dresses and will be led by academicians into the hall. After the opening speech in Latin given by the college academician before the meal, students with different backgrounds can enjoy the exchange between the seats.

 

 

This activity gives students the opportunity to enjoy the in-depth and real Cambridge life. Like the popular "Harry Potter", you will experience the most popular and oldest traditional social activities in the 800-year-old ancient college.

Cambridge Tour

College Tour: In order to familiarise students with Cambridge's living environment and create an initial impression of Cambridge, students will visit different colleges in Cambridge led by Cambridge famous historian Professor Nick, including completing the treasure hunt during the visit of the famous King's College. Finally came to our rowing club, Trinity College and St. John's College. Students will enter the academy and listen to Professor Nick's little-known stories in Cambridge for hundreds of years.

Punting

Take a flat-bottom boat to visit the picturesque "The Backs", the back gardens of the major riverside colleges in Cambridge. Punting is a way to see Cambridge that every visitor won't miss.


Xu Zhimo's "Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again" also mentioned, "Just to pole a boat upstream, To where the green grass is more verdant." Cambridge student as volunteers will lead students to experience punting and seek the beauty of the Cambridge River as described in the poem by punting.

王雨馨 16级海洋科学学院

在英国的十三天,全英文的环境与授课给我们带来了很多挑战。我们进行了城市探访,学习了人工智能、VR技术、python等课程,体验了赛艇和保龄球文化活动。除此之外还参加了天文台探访、主题演讲与辩论赛等多单元活动。其中计算机视觉与人脸检测恰好与我感兴趣的方向相符合,在与剑桥大学教授的积极互动中让我脑洞大开。

在剑桥,我们听到了多位教授对当下尖端科技发展方向进行的讲解。近两周的讲座由不同学者专家呈现,课程设置由浅入深,使我们对AI一词有了具象而深刻的理解;从简单的二维三维图像识别,到基于神经网络的语言处理,“人工智能”存在于生活中的每个角落……除了听课,我们还了解了英国乃至欧洲文化与其教育起源的发展历史,在“比较阅读”中感悟到英国文化的开放与理性。

置身于剑桥,在课堂与活动中,我愈发被剑桥的历史文化与学术精神所折服。无论是古老的哲学、神学,还是新兴的科技,VR、计算机视觉、深度学习等,在剑桥人刻苦探求、创新创业精神的驱动下都得以不断发展与进步。两周的时间不长,但我的感触很深,也使我对未来有了更多的思考。
